Commissioned Decorative Art
Project Title
Serengeti Residence Commissioned Artwork
Brief Overview or Introduction
Summary:
The Serengeti Golf and Wildlife Estate next to the R21 heading towards Johannesburg’s OR Tambo Airport has a very distinct visual identity inspired by the South African landscape. The Client who commissioned the artwork asked for a proposal of clean, minimalist, but earthy artwork concepts.
Project goals:
- Digital mockup concepts
- Three completed unframed acrylic-painted artworks
Client: Inveo Interior Architects
Challenges
Problem: One of the challenges was to make sure the colours of the final artwork look good in the type of light that is installed above the artworks.
Role
Responsibilities: The project commenced with a client meeting and a discussion about the three artworks as well as the photos taken of the house interior.
Process & Development
Research: The research included the search for a thematic framework.
Conceptualisation: The initial concept featured a few Photoshop drawings.
Iterations: The first iteration showcased AI renders.
Prototypes: The primary prototype was a completed artwork, on of three.
Final Solution/Design: The final artworks consisted of three separate artworks, each conceptualised with AI and painted with acrylic paint on canvas.
Tools & Technologies Used: A range of tools from physical to digital, including paper notebooks, pencils, Photoshop, Illustrator, ChatGPT, and WhatsApp.
Results & Impact: The result is a quiet and serene presence that is created by the muted earthy artworks.
Challenges & Learnings: One of the challenges, as menioned previously was that the colour of the sepia brown colour in one of the paintings was too pink in the warm light, so it had to be repainted with a yellower undertone.
